Myth and Legends Photography Callanish Stones

This remarkable and truly enigmatic megalithic monument stands on a hill overlooking
Loch Roag on the west coast of the Outer Hebridean island of Lewis. This site seems
to have been astrologically aligned with the various large stars, the sun and the
moon., and with distinctive points on the horizon. Thirteen tall undressed stones, made
from the local gneiss surround a stone burial tomb. A nearly parallel avenue of 19 stones
leading up to the circle and beyond, and 2 other arms leading to the west and east. From
above, the Callanish resemble a Celtic Cross.
