The town of Clifden was founded in 1812 by the local landowner John d'Arcy, a descendent of an Anglo Norman family who converted from Roman Catholicism to avoid dispossession under the Penal Laws. One can also hike down and walk around the castle. The inside is closed off as it is not a stabilized ruin. Located in Clifden, Connemara, Co. Galway. |
