![]() looks mighty and impressive. Especially when viewed from across the meadows, approaching from the main road. The Castle was built by the Lord Justice of Ireland, in 1260. But was captured by the O'Conors' before it was completely built. Roscommon changed hands many times after that, until it was recaptured by the O'Conors in 1341. |
Built by William Marshal between 1207 and 1213. Carlow is thought to be the earliest castle of its type in Ireland. Unfortunately, only part of the main keep now survives. Located in Co. Carlow.
